The nobleman and crusader of Małopolska – Jaksa Gryfita (Duke Jaxa of the House of Griffin) – founded the monastery of the Order of the Holy Sepulchre in Miechów. Thanks to him, the city also developed. The ‘U Jaksy’ Gallery provides an artistic experience and shows how art can influence the life of the town and its people. Here, the past mixes with the present to form the heart of cultural life of Miechów.

The 'U Jaksy' Gallery was established in 1986. It is an original cellar built of stone and Gothic brick. Contemporary art finds itself brilliantly in such a setting. Its showcasing is precisely the purpose and mission of the gallery. In the course of its decades-long existence, more than 350 exhibitions have opened here: individual and collective, thematic and occasional, national and international. The work of national and international artists has been presented here, and the systematic changing of exhibitions has made it possible to discuss trends and directions in modern art. In addition to the basic activity of exhibitions and educational activities aimed at the intensive popularisation of contemporary art, the ‘U Jaksy’ Gallery regularly hosts chamber concerts addressed to various age groups.
