The timber-framed building, originally with a sterling tower, was rebuilt in the 18th century and extended with a brick part of the nave and tower between 1913 and 1916. The temple was moved to its present location and rebuilt between 1984 and 1997, with the roof truss and vestry completely reconstructed. A new tower was added to the church, and the polychrome from the first half of the 17th century was restored, as were the altars and pulpit. The composition of the Last Judgement and the figure of St Christopher inside the church are particularly noteworthy. The site is part of the Wooden Architecture Route. 

The history of Krzesławice itself is interesting. The village was first mentioned in the 12th century. The name ‘Krzesławice’ derives from the name of Krzesław and his descendants. Chronicle records from 1232 note the original name of Krzesławice as ‘Creslauiz’. From the 13th to 17th century, Krzesławice belonged almost continuously to the monastery of the Order of the Holy Sepulchre in Miechów. It was a separate village until 1951, but was then incorporated into Nowa Huta during the construction of the steelworks complex.
