The National Old Theatre in Kraków
ul. Jagiellońska 1, 31-010 Kraków
It was founded in 1781 on the initiative of Mateusz Witkowski, a Warsaw actor. The main seat of the theatre is located at Szczepański Square. However, the performances of the Chamber Stage take place at Starowiślna Street. The current repertoire consists of stagings of contemporary texts and reinterpretations of classics, innovative multimedia and music projects. The Old Theatre remains open to young artists. Since 2009, the Old Theatre has been a member of the international Mitos21: European Theatre Network, bringing together prestigious European theatres and creating international theatre projects. The MICET Interactive Museum/Centre for Theatre Education operates at the theatre. It is a network of small rooms - studios, with scattered props, books, fragments of stage design and design classics from Old Theatre productions referring to five themes: FREEDOM, WE/THEY, EMOTIONS, BODY, NEW. Paths with elements of education and workshop exercises have been marked out around these themes. You can also use theatre applications on-site: director's copies, set design, audio library and virtual actor. The applications draw into the world of imagination of directors, actors, stage designers, authors of music and choreography, inspiring independent creative activities in the spaces of the interactive exhibition.
