Cisy in the Mogilno Nature Reserve
Mogilno
Tourist region: Beskid Sądecki i Niski
Yews are not tall, but very old because they may grow for two or even three thousand years. It was the first plant species in Poland to be protected and already so at the time of the rule of King Władysław Jagiełło in the first half of the 15th century. Yew was a very valuable wood, and its properties were used in the field of medicine (the poisonous taxine proved to be an effective drug for certain types of cancer) and in the production of weapons, mainly bows.
In the reserve, several hundred yews surrounded by a beautiful fir forest have survived. There is a natural path running through the reserve, consisting of nine stops, including natural monuments and lookout points. It is located on the blue trail Ptaszkowa – Nowy Sącz PKP.
