It is an expedition into the land of retro trains, the history of steam locomotives, and railway construction. Exhibits have been collected on the site of the former steam locomotive depot since the mid-1980s. In the 1970s, the Chabówka Open-Air Museum, with the most numerous and diverse collection of historic rolling stock, was opened in 1994. An exhibition consisting of decommissioned steam locomotives, electric and diesel locomotives, passenger and freight wagons, and maintenance equipment can be admired on several tracks. Interestingly, the oldest surviving steam locomotive in the country, the TKb-1479 tendon steam locomotive, produced in 1878 at the Schwartzkopff Factory in Berlin for the local Magdeburg-Halberstadt line, stands here. Some locomotives are in working order and run on heritage tourist trains. During the holidays, you can take a retro train ride on the Chabówka – Kasina Wielka or Chabówka – Mszana Dolna routes. Ordering an individual retro train according to customer requirements is also possible.
Those interested can learn about the history of the railway in the Chabówka area at a special exhibition arranged in the administrative building. The historic rolling stock from the Chabówka open-air museum has appeared in many films, including "Schindler's List", "The Advance of the Dawn Treader", "The Adventures of the Brave Fighter Szwejk", "Gold of the Deserters" and "Katyń."
