St. John Paul II Sanctuary – “Don’t Be Afraid” John Paul II Centre, Krakow
The construction of the “Don’t Be Afraid” John Paul II Centre in Krakow has been in progress since 2006 as a thanksgiving offering for the life of St. John Paul II.
The centre conducts research on the life, spirituality and the oeuvre of Karol Wojtyła – Pope John Paul II. Ultimately, the centre will consist of several buildings, such as the St. John Paul II Sanctuary, John Paul II Institute and the Voluntary Work Centre. So far the lower temple – the Church of Relics – has been built and used by the church members. On June 12, 2011 the ampoule of St. John Paul II’s blood was placed in the altar stone. Other items featured here include Pope’s mitre, chasuble and pastoral cross. The tombstone of St. John Paul II was transferred from the Vatican Caves and placed in the Priests’ Chapel that is modelled on St. Leonard’s Crypt in the Wawel Cathedral.
