One of the oldest theatres in Poland. Since the 1950s, it has been a place of loud innovative performances.
In 1991, it gained the legal status of a national stage. It was established in 1781 on the initiative of a Warsaw actor Mateusz Witkowski. It bears the name of Helena Modrzejewska, a famous Polish actress.
