Artist, scandalist, performer, visionary and revolutionist. There can never be too much about Tadeusz Kantor. That is why a museum, archive, gallery and research centre of his work, located in one place is a special phenomenon in Krakow. The originator of the institution, which today is located in the building of a historic power plant on the Vistula River, was Tadeusz Kantor himself, an artist through and through.

The combination of an old factory with a bold structure, museum, exhibition, educational and concert spaces make Cricoteka one of the most interesting places on the cultural map of Krakow. The centre was established in 1980 and, in accordance with the will of this avant-garde artist, crossing the borders not only of his generation, from the very beginning it served as a museum, archive, gallery and research centre. The centre documented unique materials documenting the activities of the Crikot 2 theatre and its founder. Previously, Cricoteka operated in four different locations, and officially opened its new headquarters at street Nadwiślańska in Krakow's Podgórze district in 2014. It was built on the premises of the historic Podgórze Power Plant. The multi-functional facility was created by combining the historic buildings of the former power plant with a modern gallery that reaches over 20 meters in height above the plant. The underside of the gallery has a mirror-like surface that reflects the roofs of the power plant buildings and the spectacular square around them. The new headquarters will present the work of Tadeusz Kantor and its impact on the works of contemporary artists. In the future, the institution also plans to promote educational activities to teach about Kantor's achievements.
