Sucha Beskidzka, located in a deep valley on the border of the Beskid Makowski and the Beskid Mały, where the Stryszawka River meets the Skawa, is not only a charming place, but also an excellent base for trips to the Beskids and to Lake Mucharskie. It is also a town of many mysteries and legends!

The Suski Tourist Information Point is located in a 16th-century Renaissance castle that was once a magnate's opulent residence. ‘Little Wawel’, as the Suski gem is so beautifully called due to its similarity to the Wawel arcade courtyard, also has a slightly more sinister face. It is still guarded by the ghost of its former owner Anna Konstancja Wielopolska, née Lubomirska, famous for her cruelty. She is the famous White Lady who strolls through the castle's corridors at night.

In turn, Karczma Rzym (Rome Inn), located at the Suski Market Square – probably the most famous of all Polish inns – was frequented not only by the famous Beskid robbers but also by the devil Mephistopheles, who is said to have abducted the legendary Master Twardowski to the moon from here. The inn is also one of the most valuable, well-preserved examples of traditional wooden architecture in the Podbeskidzie region, abundantly drawing on the traditions of the Żywiec and Babia Góra highlanders. The famous inn is, of course, on the Wooden Architecture Route and the Małopolska Gourmet Trail.

In Sucha Beskidzka, the beautifully restored railway station building from 1884 is also worth a visit. This is the starting point of the picturesque VeloSkawa cycle route (along the Skawa River). Here, the parents of Billy Wilder, one of the world’s most famous directors and an Oscar winner, ran the station’s restaurant.  It is worth mentioning on this occasion that Billy Wilder was not only born here, but also spent several years here before moving  to Kraków and then on to Vienna, Berlin, Paris and finally to the USA.

The picturesque station was also on the route of the Galician Transversal Railway, one of Galicia's most critical railway routes. Locomotives were changed in Sucha Beskidzka, so passengers from all three annexed parts of Poland met here (the Galician Transversal Railway was one of the most significant transport projects in Europe at that time – it was 768 km long and ran along the northern slopes of the Carpathian Mountains from Czadca in Slovakia to Husiatyn in Ukraine via Zwardoń, Żywiec, Sucha Beskidzka, Chabówka, Nowy Sącz, Jasło, and Zagórz).

While in Sucha Beskidzka, it is also worth ‘conquering’ the viewing platform on the slope of Mt Mioduszyna. From there, we can see not only the magnificent panorama of the town and the valleys of the Skawa and Stryszawka rivers, but also the Beskid Żywiecki, the Beskid Mały and the Beskid Makowski Mountains.
