The stone plaque built in the slab of the Cracow market square reminds the visitors of the oath given there by Tadeusz Kościuszko on 24th march 1794.
After the morning consecration of sables in the Capuchin church, he went to the Main Square to swear an oath to serve the nation and to announce the uprising. Some of his words were: I, Tadeusz Kościuszko, hereby swear by the God to the entire Polish Nation, that I shall not use the powers vested in me for anyone's oppression, but for defence of the integrity of the borders, recuperation of Nation's sovereignty and strengthening the universal freedom. So help me God and the innocent passion of His Son!
