Lookout Tower in Magurki
Ochotnica Dolna
Tourist region: Gorce i Beskid Wyspowy
The construction of a covered 30-metre tower has definitely contributed to the popularity of this peak in the Gorce.
There are two routes to reach Magurki. The first one leads from the Forendówki housing estate in Ochotnica Górna along the Wallachian Culture Trail, the second one from the Jaszcze housing estate, along the green didactic path of the Jaszcze Brook Valley.
Following the first trail, at the highlander carved out of wood, turn right into the forest (the route is marked with information plaques). On the way, you will pass Kurnytowa Koliba, which was built in 1839. During World War II, partisans had their base here. The crew of 'California Rocket', the American B-24J ‘Liberator’ bomber, who bailed out when their plane was shot down by German flak (anti-aircraft artillery) also hid here. From here, a fairly sharp uphill approach begins. After reaching the summit and climbing the lookout tower, we can expect beautiful views not only of the Gorce peaks, but also of Beskid Sądecki and the Island Beskids as well as the entire Tatra Mountains. On the tower, there are plaques depicting mountain panoramas with their descriptions.
It is worth mentioning that about 1.5 km from the tower, following the mentioned didactic path along the Jaszcze Stream Valley, one can reach the above-mentioned American 'Liberator' bomber that crashed here on 18 December 1944.
