Anyone who wants to learn about the geological lay of the land in and around Kraków has the opportunity to do so. It features the Dragon's Den, quarries, hills and ancient waterfalls. The curiosity seeker will learn about the structure of the Earth and understand the processes that take place inside and on the surface. The museum is located in the Research Centre in Kraków, which is part of the Institute of Geological Sciences of the Polish Academy of Sciences based in Warsaw. The Geological Museum has very rich collections, including teaching and comparative collections, which are sometimes thousands of years old, as described in published works. The museum currently holds palaeobotanical, palaeontological, mineralogical and lithological collections. Here you can see one of the largest collections of meteorites in Poland. Visitors can see the permanent exhibition 'Geological Structure of the Kraków Area', which has been in operation since 1994, and temporary exhibitions.
The museum popularises knowledge of geological sciences, holds exhibition events and lectures on earth sciences, and regularly hosts educational workshops and lessons for groups of schoolchildren and adults.
