It was founded in 1867 as an English and landscape park. Initially dedicated to resort patients who were supposed to rest there after the treatments.

It is located in close proximity to the Salt Mine. The park includes sports field of the KS Górnik club, the Grand Sal Hotel, headquarters of the State Fire Service in Wieliczka, offices of mine companies and residential buildings. The walking paths among the greenery and the pond with an island, where ducks use to swim in the summer, are particularly charming.
