ul. Wałowa 10, 33-100 Tarnów Tourist region: Tarnów i okolice

There is a place in Małopolska where Osiecka, Herbert, and Brzechwa sit together on one bench. In Tarnów, at the junction of Wałowa and Lwowska Streets, an original sculpture was unveiled in 2004, paying tribute to the great Polish poets of the 20th century.

The bench was created on the initiative of the Municipal Public Library and the Department of Culture of the City of Tarnów. Tarnów-based sculptor Jacek Kucaba designed it.  Life-size cast bronze figures of three famous writers sit on a seat of polished stone atop a a low brick wall, each of the three facing a different direction. The seated writers are Agnieszka Osiecka, Zbigniew Herbert, and Jan Brzechwa. Library readers chose these writers in a poll.  A metal box with a volume of their poetry is next to each poet. The keys to the boxes are in a nearby pizzeria; just ask for them, and you can sit on the same wall and read Herbert's 'The Barbarian in the Garden', Osiecka's 'Artificial Honey' or Brzechwa's 'Mr Kleks Academy'. The Poets' Bench is an interesting and much-loved tourist attraction, a permanent feature in the city's landscape and a popular spot for photographers. Here you can relax and have your photo taken with well-known figures.
