The tower's bold steel structure, with 24 curved columns forming a hyperboloid and supporting a 28-metre-diameter torus ('tyre' shape), is 37 metres high. It was designed in the late 1970s. It was built in the 1960s at the Warsaw University of Technology and was designed by architect Jerzy Bogusławski and a team of designers. The tower was erected in the early 1980s. It was built in the 1970s at the highest point in the city, at 143 metres above sea level. ‘Bania’ is a water reservoir with a capacity of 3,000 cubic metres, stabilising the pressure in the water supply network during peak consumption by consumers in Tarnów's most extensive and tallest apartment buildings, known as the ‘Falklands’. The tower, which has become a permanent part of the city's urban landscape, is managed by Tarnów Waterworks and is not open to the public.
