The Benedictine Abbey in Tyniec is picturesquely situated on a limestone hill upon the Wisła River, in the western part of Kraków.
It was founded in 1041 as the first Benedictine monastery in Poland. The monastery buildings, along with the St. Peter and St. Paul Church, are surrounded by a wall. The remains of the oldest Romanesque temple are preserved in the form of the foundations and a wall with the portal. The current layout of the church comes from its rebuilding in the 15th century, while its interior is Baroque.
