The castle was founded on the initiative of the Bishop of Krakow – Piotr Myszkowski and starost of Chęciny in the years 1585-95.
It was designed by the Italian architect – Santi Gucci. Initially, the castle was built in the late-Renaissance style and then gained the late-Baroque and Neo-Gothic elements. It is located near Książ, on the Mirów Hill.
