In the centre of the village of Bielany situated at the River Soła, you find the Shrine of Christ’s Passion in the parish church of St. Matthias the Apostle.
The Shrine contains an image of the Flagellation of Christ wearing a crown of thorns, painted by an unknown artist at the beginning of the 18th century. According to tradition, the painting was rescued from the River Soła and placed in a wooden church. Soon, large numbers of pilgrims started arriving from the neighbouring areas, the Beskid Mountains and Silesia. To this day, many faithful visit the church to get indulgences, especially during religious holidays such as the 3rd of May (the Feast of the Blessed Virgin Mary, Queen of Poland), the 14th of May (the Feast of St. Matthias the Apostle), the Feast of Pentecost and the Feast of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross on the 14th of September.
