Comte Vineyard
ul. Hardego 19, 32-310 Klucze
Tourist region: Jura Krakowsko-Częstochowska
The winery was established in 2005 by Maciej Kaplita. Since 2007, the vineyard has covered an area of 0.8 hectares and is located in two locations in Klucze, near Olkusz.
Located on the gentle south-western and western slopes, both plots of land are oriented towards the Błędów Desert that acts as a natural regulator of the climate in the area, releasing the heat at night in summertime and retaining heat in winter, moderating the weather and mitigating the sometimes heavy frosts.
There are stony clay soils on limestone bedrock (so-called rendzinas), typical of the Jura.
This soil is dominated by vitis vinifera strains – Dornfelder for red wines and Muscat Ottonel for white wines. The leading product of this vineyard is Dornfelder that is matured in French barrels and has been recognised as one of the best in Poland. A series of adverse climatic conditions – mainly very heavy frosts although a tornado passed through the area in the summer of 2012 – caused extensive damage to the vineyard, which has yet to be fully repaired.
