The beginnings of museum education in Nowy Sącz go back to the late 1980s and early 1990s, although memorabilia began to be collected in the 19th century. The museum has seven branches in Nowy Sącz, Krynica Zdrój, Szlachtowa, and Podegrodzie.

During a visit to the Nowy Sącz Ethnographic Park, one of the branches of the Museum of Nowy Sącz Land, you can see how cultures, religions and nationalities intermingled in the region. There are churches of three denominations, houses and homesteads of the Lachs and Highlanders of Nowy Sącz and Pogórze, Lemkos, Germans, and Gypsies. In the nearby Galician Town, a replica of market buildings from the end of the 19th century, you can see small-town buildings such as the town hall, the houses of burghers, and an inn.

The collections on display in the museum today have long histories. Mementoes of the past began to be collected at the end of the 19th century. Initially, the municipal library was chosen to house the museum, but it was not until 12 August 1938 that the museum was finally established, with some of the rooms in the starost's castle being used for the exhibition. The following year, in the face of the German occupation, some of the most valuable objects were hidden by the inhabitants. In January 1945, an explosion at an ammunition depot turned the castle and the museum into ruins.

The museum was reactivated in 1946 and slowly began to restore the collection. Initially, all the exhibits found shelter in the Gothic House. In 1975, the museum was renamed the District Museum in Nowy Sącz. It was also then that the Sadecki Ethnographic Park was established. In 2024, the museum was given a new name – Museum of the Nowy Sącz Land.

Currently, the Museum of the Nowy Sącz Land has seven branches:
