The Gothic-Renaissance building of the Museum was erected at the beginning of the 16th century from the foundation of Erazm Ciołek, Bishop of Płock, canon of Kraków and secretary to King Alexander Jagiellon. Today it is a division of the National Museum in Kraków, where two permanent galleries are presented: "The Art of Old Poland. 12th - 18th century" and "Orthodox Art of the Old Polish Commonwealth". Here you will find true treasures of medieval sculpture and painting and a unique collection of icons, considered the most valuable collection of Orthodox church painting in Central Europe - including priceless 15th and 16th-century icons from the Carpathian region, also known as Western Ruthenian. In the halls of the Palace, you will find works by Wit Stwosz and artists from his circle. The cellars house a studio collection of architectural sculptures "Kraków at a Glance". The Bishop Ciołek Palace also houses educational activities.
